I have been a photographer in the NC Triangle area since 2009. I enjoy working with children and families of all ages, needs and abilities. I love to capture your natural expressions, and will often just ask kids and families to play and have fun. I
never expect a child to sit and smile and say “cheese”–that’s just not the Mojo style.
Some of my favorite families to work with are those experiencing special developmental or medical needs. I have several years experience working with children facing a variety of special needs ranging from autism to cancer. These kids and families give me the motivation to continue working as a photographer. For the past year or so, I have been documenting familes experiencing childhood cancer from different perspectives. I have also been active in using my photography for fundraising for that cause.
I started using photography in college and graduate school. I have degrees in Biotechnology and Biomaterials–Tissue Engineering. Much of my work required me to image (photograph) my experiment’s progress and results. My first exposure to photography was learning to photograph chromosomes. This was all done on film then developing in a dark room. In graduate school, I learned digital imaging technology. Fast Forward some years and I challenged myself to learn as much as I could about photographing larger subjects (people). I brushed up on my photoshop skills (which I used in graduate school) and gained my first exposure to learning about owning a small business. Each year, I continue to set new goals and challenges for myself to evolve as a photographer.
